People Over Party: Why I’m Running Independent

I chose to run as an independent because I believe the people of Yancey County should come before a political party. Being independent doesn't mean avoiding difficult positions. It means being willing to look at each issue, consider the facts, listen to different perspectives, and ask what actually works for Yancey. I won't agree with everyone, and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. But I believe we can disagree without becoming divided. Good ideas should be supported because they are good ideas—not because of who proposed them. That is what People Over Party and Yancey First mean to me.
