Where Does Our Money Go?

Every taxpayer deserves to ask where their money is going. I am not interested in making easy promises about taxes or pretending every county expense can simply be eliminated. I am interested in understanding the numbers. What is required? What is discretionary? What are we getting in return? Are there more efficient ways to accomplish the same goals? Public money deserves accountability. As a business owner, I understand that every expense needs a purpose, and county government should be held to that same basic standard. If we want a serious conversation about the tax burden on Yancey County residents, we need to start by understanding exactly how public money is being used.
